What is “keep my street green” project
“KeepMyStreetGreen” is a local effort to save our Oceans from Plastic Pollution by doing it through an “Adopt A Street” Program by volunteers. This project was started as an Innovative Community Project in Parsippany, NJ by its Green Team, as part of the Sustainable Jersey goals commitment and is planning to expand into more towns in NJ.
“KEEP MY STREET GREEN”
Is a
Simple concept
keeping our local streets free from plastic pollution
and stopping run-off plastics infiltrating into storm drains
In a Hypothetical Situation,
How much does it impact…
If we can recover few thousands of plastic pieces from one town annually
and it can reach millions if every town adopts in NJ state alone annually..
Adopt A Street Program:
This Program is not a new concept, few other towns are already doing it and currently seeing a positive result..
How Are We Different:
We have some innovative concepts to this program for long term sustainability like..
- A Digital App to log activities, collect data
- Reward Volunteers $
- Data Analytics to various interest groups
- >Data Science programs for High School Students
Who Will Do:
- Volunteers
Our simple goals
Keep Our Storm Drains free from Plastic Debris
Keep Our Storm Drains Free from other trash/garbage
Keep our streets free from cigarette butts
What We Do?
We have Simple & Effective Plan:
- Volunteers pickup Plastic Debris by Walk/Bike once a Week(Yes, Once a Week can produce good results.)
- Log recovered item details via Mobile App
- Educate residents to observe and clean post recycle pickup if any spill overs occur
Resources required:
- Trash Pickup Hand Gun
- Mobile App (To log volunteer activities)
- Educate/Inspire/Reward Volunteers
- Setup a Non-Profit Organization to mobilize/ organize resources.
Comprehensive solution:
- Extend the project from Local Streets to Local Business Areas
- Educate Local Business on our program and goals
- Volunteers can do a “Adopt a Business Area” for cleanups and awareness.
- Create awareness campaigns and simple advisories/policies thru flyers
- KEEP MY STORE GREEN
- KEEP MY HOTEL GREEN
- KEEP MY RESTAURANT GREEN
- Mainly to take care of Plastic and Cigarette butts; not throwing on to streets/parking lots and maintaining proper bin care for cigarette butts which are easily to run-off into storm drains.
- From Government side, look for any of these solutions and make it into a town/street policies.
